<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">DISCUSSION AND 48-HOUR OUTLOOK

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">------------------------------

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">At 700 AM CDT (1200 UTC), the center of Tropical Storm Bill was

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">located near latitude 28.2 North, longitude 96.0 West. Bill is

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">moving toward the northwest near 13 mph (20 km/h) and this general

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">motion is expected to continue today.  On the forecast track, the

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">center of Bill is expected to make landfall in the warning area

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">along the Texas coast later this morning and move inland over

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">south-central Texas this afternoon and tonight.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">Reports from an Air Force Reserve reconnaissance aircraft indicate

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">that maximum sustained winds have increased to near 60 mph (95 km/h)

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">with higher gusts. Little additional strengthening is expected

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">before landfall occurs in a few hours. Weakening is forecast after

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">the center moves inland later today, and Bill is expected to weaken

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">to a tropical depression tonight.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">Tropical-storm-force winds extend outward up to 150 miles (240 km)

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">from the center.  During the past hour, a WeatherFlow observing

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">station at Matagorda Bay reported a wind gust to 45 mph (72 km/h).

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">The estimated minimum central pressure based on reconnaissance

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">data is 997 mb (29.44 inches).

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">HAZARDS AFFECTING LAND

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">----------------------

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">RAINFALL:  Bill is expected to produce total rain accumulations of

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">4 to 8 inches over eastern Texas and eastern Oklahoma and 2 to 4

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">inches over western Arkansas and southern Missouri, with possible

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">isolated maximum amounts of 12 inches in eastern Texas.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">WIND:  Tropical storm conditions are expected to reach the coast

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">within the warning area within the next hour or two.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">STORM SURGE:  The combination of a storm surge and the tide will

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">cause normally dry areas near the coast to be flooded by rising

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">waters.  The water could reach the following heights above ground if

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">the peak surge occurs at the time of high tide...

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">Upper Texas coast...2 to 4 feet

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">Western Louisiana coast...1 to 2 feet

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">The deepest water will occur along the immediate coast near and to

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">the right of the landfall location.  Surge-related flooding depends

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">on the relative timing of the surge and the tidal cycle, and can

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">vary greatly over short distances.  For information specific to your

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">area, please see products issued by your local National Weather

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">Service forecast office.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">TORNADOES:  A few tornadoes will be possible across portions of

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Courier New"">eastern Texas and far western Louisiana today and tonight.
