Coast Guard practicing oil spill drill on Cooper today

The U.S. Coast Guard will practice using its Spilled Oil Recovery System
on the Cooper River beginning at 9 a.m. today.
The equipment is designed to be used on Coast Guard buoy tenders for
response to environmental emergencies. It's can begin recovering oil in
less than an hour once it responds to the scene of an emergency.
The captain of the port has established a temporary moving safety zone
around the Cutter Oak during the exercise.
