NEWS ARTICLES: Sanford: Joint port project with Ga. on track Associated Press Tuesday, September 23, 2008
BEAUFORT — South Carolina Gov. Mark Sanford has written a letter to Jasper County residents saying a project to build a port owned by Georgia and South Carolina along the Savannah River is on track.
The Beaufort Gazette reports that Sanford's letter last week said the next step is for a committee of officials from both states to choose a company to make preliminary plans and oversee studies that must be done.
Sanford says he thinks the port is far enough along that it would be difficult for the next governor in either state to derail the project.
The 1,400-acre port will be on the South Carolina side of the river in Jasper County.
