<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">Dear Friend,

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">Even more positive news this month has effectively cut the timeline for the Charleston Harbor Deepening Project by about five years and further underscores how much momentum the project has gained in a very short amount of time.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">Through a new, headquarters-level initiative at the Corps of Engineers, our deepening project is the first in the nation using new streamlining measures designed to complete studies more expeditiously while saving money. We also received terrific news from the White House that Charleston's deepening project is one of seven projects in five ports deemed the nation's most vital infrastructure projects.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">These two expediting measures have put us on track to complete the deepening by 2019, well ahead of initial projections.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">As always, please reach out to us if you have any questions or comments. We appreciate your ongoing support and interest in South Carolina's ports.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">President: Charleston Harbor Deepening is National Priority

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">The President of the United States has named Charleston's Post 45 Harbor Deepening Project one of the nation's seven priority infrastructure projects, committing that the project's study and necessary reviews will be completed by September 2015.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">The initial list of projects, which is part of the Administration's We Can't Wait initiative, is targeted to expedite the most critical infrastructure projects in the country. Charleston's harbor deepening is one of seven projects in five ports included in the initiative.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">"This announcement represents more good news for our deepening project, and demonstrates that the highest levels of our government understand the critical need to advance this project," said Jim Newsome, president and CEO of the South Carolina Ports Authority (SCPA). "In just two years, we have gone from not being included in the President's Budget to now being a top priority. We are grateful for the Administration's commitment."

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">This announcement builds upon the update from the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers' Charleston District earlier this month which announced a reduced timeline and cost estimate for Charleston's feasibility study. Under the new Administration program, the study and federal reviews now will be further expedited and will be completed up to one year earlier.

We Can't Wait<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black"> is a direct result of a Presidential Executive Order issued in March, which called for a government-wide effort to streamline the permitting and review process for vital infrastructure projects in communities across the nation.

<span-size:10.0pt;font-family:"Arial","sans-serif";color:black">The SCPA, along with U.S. Sen. Lindsey Graham, Congressman Jim Clyburn and Charleston Mayor Joe Riley, in April sent letters to the Administration and members of the steering committee charged with this initiative, asking that they include Charleston's Post 45 Project in their priority infrastructure list.
